IT Support Assistant (Full-Time)

Located in the heart of the Algarve, in Portugal, Bright International School offers a bespoke learning experience tailored to each learner and grounded in the globally recognised Cambridge International Education curriculum. We believe in empowering learners to become active, responsible global citizens who are ready to face the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Role Overview

We are looking for a proactive and resourceful IT Support Assistant to join our technology team. This role is hands-on and varied; you will be responsible for ensuring that our digital learning environment runs smoothly. From maintaining classroom hardware like iPads and TVs to troubleshooting network connectivity, you will play a vital role in supporting both our teachers and students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hardware Maintenance: Perform regular updates, physical cleaning, and repairs on laptops (Windows/Mac), iPads, and tablets.
  • Audio-Visual (AV) Support: Set up and maintain classroom TVs, interactive whiteboards, projectors, and sound systems.
  • Network Assistance: Assist in monitoring and maintaining the school’s wired and wireless networks (Wi-Fi access points, cabling, and basic switch management).
  • General Troubleshooting: Act as the first point of contact for technical “help desk” requests from staff and students.
  • Inventory Management: Help track school assets, manage equipment check-outs, and organize the IT storage areas.
  • Setup & Deployment: Prepare devices for the start of terms, including installing software images and configuring user accounts.

Technical Qualifications

  • Device Expertise: Proven experience maintaining and repairing laptops and mobile devices (specifically iOS/iPadOS).
  • Network Basics: Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
  • General Electronics: Ability to handle basic electronic repairs or setups (cables, mounting TVs, battery replacements).
  • Software: Proficiency in Windows 10/11, macOS, and Microsoft 365. Some knowledge in MDM and MIS management systems are a plus, but not required.

Personal Attributes (Soft Skills)

  • English Fluency: Must be fluent in English (written and spoken). You will need to communicate technical solutions clearly to staff, document hardware issues, and interact with English-language software interfaces and technical support lines.
  • Patience: The ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff and students in a patient, clear manner.
  • Proactivity: Someone who notices a frayed cable or a glitchy screen before it becomes a problem.
  • Organization: Able to juggle multiple small tasks in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Integrity: Must be able to pass a background check through a criminal record check (required for working in a school environment).

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma with a specialization in IT, Associate degree in IT, CompTIA A+ certification, or 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is a plus but not required.
